Observability Platform discovery

We are in discovery to understand how teams across the Ministry of Justice monitor and investigate the behaviour of their applications and infrastructure.

We want to work with teams across Modernisation Platform, Cloud Platform, and other environments to understand their current situation before deciding what a future Observability Platform should provide.

What we want to understand

  • Which observability tools and services teams use today.
  • How teams use logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, and alerts.
  • What works well and where teams encounter difficulties.
  • How teams investigate incidents and understand service health.
  • The effort involved in maintaining existing tooling.
  • Requirements around access, security, data handling, and integration.
  • Where shared capabilities could help and where teams have different needs.

These are areas to explore, not completed findings or promised features. Discovery is about understanding needs before deciding on a solution; it is not an announcement of a selected product or final architecture.

How this relates to the current platform

The current platform exists on Modernisation Platform and uses Amazon Managed Grafana. Its onboarding and access guidance describe that service.

The current offering is intended to be retired in the future. This discovery does not announce a retirement date, migration timetable, or replacement ready for use, and does not mean the current service has closed.

The broader scope of discovery does not change the current platform’s invitation-only onboarding process. Taking part in discovery is not onboarding to a new live service.

We want to hear about your existing setup, challenges, and requirements. You do not need a proposed solution to contribute.
